Gloucester Cathedral on a December afternoon...

I’m sure that Gloucester Cathedral is magnificent in any weather and at any time of year, but for atmosphere, you have to experience it on a damp, grey December afternoon…

Find the gothic tomb of Edward II, murdered in Berkeley Castle in ghastly circumstances…allegedly. And the wooden effigy of Robert Curthose, a man who wanted to be king but didn’t quite make it. Gaze in wonder at the stained glass windows of Thomas Denny. Laugh at the actual size Knitivity and love the octopus. Look up and be overwhelmed by the grandeur and beauty of the ceiling, and walk the four sides of the cloisters, failing to mention Harry Potter…

We were particularly blessed by visiting during a choir practice… closing our eyes, we could have imagined ourselves transported back through the centuries.
